It's been forever...and I'm not sure people still look at the blog...

But I feel like it might be a good thing to get back on the blog. I want to try to keep track of our adventure in the west in a better manner than for the past couple of months. Of course so many things have changed, that I'm not quite sure where to begin. I don't think I can summarize everything that has happened in the past several months, so I'm just going to start where we are today.
Gabriel had his first day of school yesterday, Kindergarten to be precise. He did really well. We live very close to the school (about 500 meters) but I still have to walk with him to school: so the first morning, he got out of the house, turned around, looked at me and said "ok, bye, see you later". When I had to tell him that I actually had to walk to school with him, he looked very disappointed and really seemed to think that I was an over-protective mother. He also wanted to walk home all by himself, which he almost did, until I caught up with him about half way down the path. Anyhow, he seems to love it. And I'm glad he does.
Miriam's transition into daycare wasn't that easy. She's been going for two weeks now and she really is having a hard time. I'm not sure what it is. I don't have complete confidence in her teacher (she's extremely young... i mean 22... that's almost still a kid, right?) but I also do realize that for her it's a huge transition. She has just spent three months hanging out with me and with family, getting to do really fun stuff (the beach, the pool, taking the train, going on walks with grand-parents, hanging out with cousins) and so i think it's particularly hard to get back into more normal things for her. We'll see how it goes, but if it doesn't get better, i am planning to have her go at a in-house daycare in our neighborhood. It seems like the place would fit her needs better.
Speaking of our neighborhood, it's really been a wonderful move for us. I love where our house is located, and I love the house itself. I'm also so excited about discovering this area a little more. The other day we went to the beach which is about five minutes from our house and we got to see a seal... we also went clam-digging with the grand-parents and berry-picking. It's just so nice to be able to do these things and know that it makes really special memories for the kids and for us. I have also been able to get back to work in almost a normal fashion. I still need to really get back to the dissertation but i feel like things are falling into place fairly well. Now if we could only sell our house in Georgia... : )

The picture is from Gabe's first day of school...
